Streets of Rage

Streets of Rage was released on the Sega Megadrive back in 1991. The game was a beat-em-up classic that had enemy fighters walk onto the screen from both sides of the screen. Along the way, you'd pick up items such as pieces of chicken, which helped replenishe your health. The three characters that you could choose from were called Adam Hunter, Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding; three police officers whose goal it was to retake the city from a powerful criminal organization.

I think that one of the things that made this game so great and popular was the fact that it had a 2-player co-op mode, which allowed you and your friends to play together. Personally, I spent many an afternoon kicking the crap out of bad guys with my friends, who would pop over to my house just so that we could play it.
