The Talkboy was released back in 1993, the same year that Ace of Base's "All That She Wants" was released as a single and the movie Jurassic Park hit movie theaters across the globe. You may also remember 1993 as the year that "Mrs. Doubtfire" was released. the Talkboy basically allowed you to record voice onto a cassette tape and play it back at a faster/slower rate.
Anyway, The Talkboy first appeared in movie "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" back in 1992 as a "non-working prop". i.e. The Talkboy that was shown in the movie didn't actually work. A year later, Tiger Electronics turned the prop into a working retail product that was marketed at kids and teenagers:
"HEY, STOP DROOLING ON ME!" I also love the creepy "Hi kids, we're home early!" recording, simply because it doesn't sound like a person's voice at all.
They also came out with a version for girls:
