The Land Before Time

The Land Before Time is an animated movie about dinosaurs that was released back in November, 1988 (that's 24 years ago!). This was the same year that George Bush (senior) defeated Democratic Party nominee Michael Dukakis for the US Presidency. It was also the year that the Soviet Union withdrew its armed forces from Afghanistan.



The movie follows Littlefoot and his friends as they search for the "Great Valley", an almost-mythical place that is rich in food, water and shelter. The group (seen above) was made up of Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Spike and Petrie. The movie is actually available on Youtube:

It's also worth noting that the movie spawned a series of movies that were continuously released throughout the 1990s and the 2000s.

The All-New Super Friends Hour

"The All-New Super Friends Hour" was an American cartoon that ran between September 1977 and September 1978.



The show followed an elite group of super heroes:

• Batman and Robin
• Superman
• Wonder Woman
• Aquaman and
• The Wonder Twins

The show stopped in 1978 when ABC decided that the show's success was enough to warrant the launch of a new show called "Super Friends" (pictured above). Here's an intro for nostalgia purposes:

The Real Ghostbusters - Cartoon

"The Real Ghostbusters" was a cartoon series that started back in 1986, the same year that saw the release of Top Gun and "Crocodile" Dundee. It was also the year that Madonna released her hit single "Papa Don't Preach".



The cartoon series was based on the original 1984 film "Ghostbusters". The word "Real" was added because a similarly-named cartoon based on an entirely different show from the 70s was also airing on TV at the time.

Throughout the show, The Ghostbusters, their secretary Janine, their accountant Louis and their green ghost Slimer, chased ghosts around New York city.



The cartoon quickly became a success after its release, being named by IGN as the 22nd best show in the Top 100 Best Animated TV Shows. After running for 7 seasons, which comprised of 147 episodes in total, the original airing of the show came to an end in 1991.

Masters of the Universe - Toy Figures

Masters of the Universe was a media franchise that appeared back in 1981, back when "ET" and "Annie" were in movie theaters.



The series began as a bunch of mini-comics that were released between 1981 and 1983. In these comics, a barbarian called He-Man protected "Castle Grayskull" from the evil warlord Skeletor, who had crossed over from another dimension.

The franchise also spawned a cartoon series (He-Man and the Masters of the Universe), which ran between 1983 and 1985. Those of you who watched this show will probably remember the famous lines: "By the power of Grayskull... I have the Power!" Here's the iconic opening theme:



Throughout the 80s, toy figures of characters from the franchise were released.



If you were an 80s kid, you most likely had at least one or two of these figurines. If you were a 90s kid, you probably came across these lying around in a relatives house.

Garfield and Friends

The cartoon series "Garfield and Friends" began back in 1988, the same year the movies Die Hard and Beetlejuice were released. This was also the same year that "Boyz II Men" formed and "Faith" by George Michael was sitting on top of the US singles charts.



Garfield and Friends was based on the comic strip Garfield, which was first published on the 19th of June, 1978 (if you remember, this was a few days after notorious serial killer "Son of Sam" had been sentenced to 365 years in prison).

With characters such Garfield, the fat tabby cat and Jon Arbuckle, his owner, Garfield and Friends spanned 7 seasons and 121 episodes before concluding in December, 1994. You might also remember Odie, the dumb-but-caring beagle that Garfield was always making fun of. Then there was the grey tabby Nermal, who Garfield was jealous of because Jon had labeled him "the world's cutest kitten".

And who could forget Herman Post, the mailman that Garfield was constantly setting traps for?
