The Super Soaker was invented back in 1989 by Lonnie Johnson. In 1990, it hit the markets, being sold by Larami, a toy company that was eventually bought-out by Hasbro in 1995.
The first Super Soaker (pictured above) was originally called "The Power Drencher". In 1991, it was rebranded and renamed for a series of TV commercials:
Boasting 25 ounces of water and a 35 foot range, this water gun became a huge hit back in the 1990s. It even had a pump that allowed you build up pressure so that you could shoot it further!
